Why are people so obsessed with home videos?

The Mandela Catalogue is an analog horror story based on real-life, bone-chilling events. Author Alex Kister says, Our fascination with home videos is twofold. First, they’re a record of our lives—they capture memories that will never be duplicated. They are simultaneously more intimate than photos and less immediate than video. So why do we compulsively film everything? Is it because we want to look back on our lives someday and see what we did right? Or is it simply because we have cameras in our pockets all day long? We can’t help but document every moment. I think both reasons are actual at once. That’s why Mandela County was born.

How do they get inside your TV?

Do they use VHS tape? Do they need to be invited in? What is their modus operandi, and can we stop them?! I have discovered all of these answers thanks to a series of documents left on my doorstep yesterday morning. Let’s take a look at them now. (NO SPOILERS) A handwritten, no hand-writtenenenched piece of paper reading FOR YOU was found next to 6 unmarked VHS tapes. The handwritten note reached-written. What’s going on with all these weirdos?

The first episode of The Mandela Catalogue begins with a man digging a hole in his living room floor. He tells viewers he’s just trying to figure out what he’s doing there and that everything started when everything went silent. He says he doesn’t know where everyone else is or why they left him behind. The man then puts on some music, sits on his couch, and goes back to work on his hole. He says if you want to hear more about what happened next, you should check out episode two… or maybe even watch one for yourself? There are only six episodes, after all. Just another day in Mandela County: The second episode opens with a woman sitting at her kitchen table reading a newspaper while eating breakfast cereal and drinking coffee. She looks up from her paper to see an elderly couple standing across from her.

Can you really die from watching too many tapes?

VHS tapes, that is. That’s what one man believes after he accidentally watches too many videos of The Mandela Catalog in a single night, causing his nightmares to become all too real and his paranoia to go into overdrive. So,,, just how much VHS can a human body take? Let’s find out! The following should be taken with a grain of salt (and some pinch of sugar). Read on at your own risk. Is there any way out of this hellscape?

Is there any way out of Mandela County? Upon a bit of research, one discovers that there is a way. The first step to getting out is… well, not getting out. It’s staying in. This seems counter-intuitive at first glance, but it’s really not if you think about it: you can’t get out of wherever you are if you don’t stay there long enough. So, if you want to escape from hell, just stay put. But what do I mean by stay put? Well, it depends on where exactly you are right now. So let me break it down for you. There are 6 episodes in total – each corresponding to a different VHS tape – and they’re all based on one location (I won’t tell you which, though).

Overview of 6 episodes

Mandela Catalogue-Episode 1 :

Welcome to Titty City… In episode 1, your journey begins when you visit Titty City. The first thing you need to know is that everyone here has either A) been born here or B) committed some horrible crime and was sentenced here. Nobody escapes from Titty City. You might be thinking: Well, isn’t that convenient! If nobody ever leaves, then how will I go? Don’t worry; we haven’t forgotten about you! What happens after you arrive in Titty City is that you have to undergo surgery.

As soon as you wake up from surgery, your legs have been removed and replaced with giant spider legs. Then, once again, as soon as you wake up from surgery (this time after being knocked unconscious), a worm enters your body through your abdomen. Finally, as soon as you wake up from surgery (once again), a second worm enters your mouth and starts wriggling its way into your skull. Now that you have these procedures, you’ll be able to leave. And if someone does manage to do so, chances are good that he or she will also find a way out of town.
