THE TEMPERATURE WITH THE HELP OF A VAPOR PRESSURE THERMOMETER

Abstract:

This experiment is about to measure the temperature with the help of vapor pressure thermometer. A vapor pressure thermometer is a device which used to measure the temperature exerted by a volume of a gas or liquid. It most widely used instrument in industrial temperature measurements. It working depend on the principle of thermal expansion of the fluid with the change in the temperature. The temperature change could be measured using thermometers, which depend on pressure measurements.

Introduction:

A vapor pressure thermometer is an instrument or a device in which a variable vapor pressure of a volatile liquid is used for measuring the temperature. For this purpose, a pressure gauge used. There are different kind of vapor pressure thermometer are available like metal expansion, liquid in glass, liquid in steel and gas expansion. The applications of these equipment are gasses, solid and fluids, and liquids respectively.

These equipment having different overall industrial temperature. Metal expansion have a temperature range “between” 0 to 400 degree. Liquid in glass have a temperature range “between” -200 to +500 degree. Vapor pressure thermometer is temperature dependent device. The measuring principal of vapor pressure is that first of all liquid begins to vaporized 

Method:

           The following steps taken in order to find measurement:

  • Placed the vapor pressure thermometer and boiled water (by means of the heater) along with the mercury thermometer in the beaker.
  • Kept the switch closed.
  • Noted the time taken with help of a stopwatch from ambient temperature to the boiling temperature of the water.

Results and Discussion:

The values of ambient temperature and boiling temperature of water and time is measured by using thermistor according to the method as explained above.

Conclusion:

This experiment is about temperature measurement by using it. It measures temperature with respect to vapor pressure of liquid present inside thermometer. Limited linearity and prone to errors. The bulb size may be too large to fit the available space. The maximum temperature is more limited than that in some electrical measuring systems. Proper Calibration of bulb, Capillary tube and Bouden tube is needed. If bulb is raised by a high from the calibration elevation ,then the Bourden gauge experiences an increse in pressure equal to Error = (density).g.h
